Building on an existing collaboration between the University of Michigan?s Survey Research Center (SRC), the Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS), and the Government of Tamil Nadu (including the Department of Economics and Statistics (DES)), SRC methodological and technical staff will continue to provide training and capacity building support to MIDS and DES/DEAR staff ? working toward the launch of the first wave of data collection (?Baseline?) on the Tamil Nadu Household Panel Study by preparing a Pilot program to be used for training. This funding from the World Bank Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building (TFSCB) program will allow SRC to develop and document basic technical systems for computer-assisted interview (CAI) data collection, and to provide training on use of these systems and on general survey research best practices (including questionnaire development, interviewer training, production monitoring, quality control, data management, and basic data analysis and report preparation). This collaboration and training will be done remotely between the SRC (Ann Arbor, Michigan) and Tamil Nadu staff, and also during in-person training sessions where Tamil Nadu staff will travel to Michigan (the budget supports approximately 3 staff), and where SRC staff will travel to Chennai (the budget supports approximately 2 staff).
