Helen Meier discusses the impact of redlining on the health of Black Americans

Helen MeierA new study, coauthored by Helen Meier, finds that discriminatory housing practices (redlining) established in the 1930s continue to impact Black Americans’ risk of stroke. Meier discussed the study in the U.S. News & World Report: “Having a house is one of the best ways to build wealth through equity,” Meier said. “When you’re systematically denying certain portions of the population access to the best ways to build wealth, that disadvantage then accumulates over generations. Socioeconomic disadvantage is very tied to health.”
