Yajuan Si piece in Washington Post proposes a “second best” method for predicting trends in COVID-19 infections
Until widespread & systematic testing for #COVID19 is available, Len Covello, Andrew Gelman, and Yajuan Si propose testing asymptomatic people who are visiting hospitals for outpatient procedures & adjusting the positive rates to the area’s demographics.
Their method was able to predict trends in hospitalizations 7-10 days before they occur, which can give policymakers crucial time to prepare for a surge in infections.
