The proposed supplement to the parent grant will support Dominique Edwards in her doctoral studies at the University of Michigan?s School of Public Health. The goals and training activities of the supplement have been carefully designed to provide the necessary expertise to support an independent career in aging research and to enhance diversity in the biomedical workforce. The supplement will augment Ms. Edwards? training in the PhD Program in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education (HBHE) by providing a mentored directed opportunity to develop the critical thinking skills, scientific expertise, and professional training for a successful career in aging research. To this end, the research plan builds off the analyses and data linkages in the parent grant by adding novel measures of racial residential segregation and investigating their relationship with health behaviors and racial inequalities in age-related cognitive decline.
